About Me

My name is Arman Santos and I am currently a senior attending Southeast Career Technical Academy under the Certified Nursing

Assistant program. While I was given two other choices to study under the Culinary Arts program at Southeast Tech and the Pre-Medical magnet program at Rancho High school, I made a decision to prepare myself and my medical career at Southeast Tech. I chose Southeast Tech because after touring the campus, I knew it was the right choice for me based off of the observations made and presentation of the school's dynamics. The familial bonds made between students and staff, extracurricular activities, and post-high school opportunities presented perfect to me. This is my journey.

Throughout my four years spent at Southeast Tech, I've been involved in two different Career and Technical Student Organizations,

three school clubs, one campaign, and experienced a life-changing retreat. HOSA, SkillsUSA, Key Club International, Student Organization of Latinos (SOL), Southeast Tech Student Ambassadors, No Place for Hate Campaign, and attending Camp Anytown as a Fall 2019 Delegate have all been major contributions to my developing life. I am proud to associate myself with these organizations because they have prepared me with the materials to live life as it is given to me.

I began studying my major during senior year and by far I have enjoyed every moment of it. I was taught what role does a CNA play in

the medical field and what is allowed within their scope of practice. Everyday spent in the classroom and in lab, I have found that performing the job doesn't always take knowledge; it takes heart. Often many people turn away from this position because they find it not appealing or worth the pay, and that's okay. It takes a special someone to complete it. I observed this when I began my clinical rotation hours at Desert Springs hospital where my lab partner and I were able to practice hands-on with an experienced CNA. They would tell us that being a CNA is tough, but it's worth it if you want it. Compassion and empathy are the core of the job. The CNAs are the eyes and ears for the patient because they interact with the patient more than another person. I am grateful to have experienced this.

All throughout my life, I've always known that I want to end up in the medical field and those plans haven't changed. Although this

current COVID-19 pandemic has an affect on my last year and is preventing me from attaining my certification, my plans are still alive. Post-high school, I will attend Nevada State College as a Pre-Nursing Major to complete my undergraduate studies so that I can apply into the NSC Nursing school. I choose to dedicate my life in servitude towards children/teens as a Pediatric Registered Nurse: life is scary enough as it is and why not make it less scary by being at a child's life advocating for their health?

I've given some thought as to how can I think ahead to solve a current issue in this world right now; how can I come up with a

possible long term treatment or cure for Type I Diabetes Mellitus?

Senior Year

This has been a year of

unforgettable memories; A year full of laughter, good times, and wonderful people blessing my life with their presence and liveliness. The academic year 2019-2020 has faced me with challenges that I persevered through and I could not have been more thankful for the lessons I've learned from it.

It was exhilarating to wake up on

the first Friday of the school year that I got to spend with my friends and share a cup of Dutch Bros. Coffee while we captured moments all throughout the sunrise. Wearing the crown I had spent hours on and my Class of 2020 Senior shirt set up a good preface for the day.

Sharing a couple days with my

pals to put our artistic abilities on the blacktop could not have passed the time better than anything else. I pondered on what I should paint and I figured, "Why not continue the theme from my senior crown?" I got to work and looked up some designs and surely I found a Lilo & Stitch design that I liked. I've never painted on a big canvas like this before so it was surely a challenge, however it turned out really nice.

The month is February and it was

time for my clinical partner and I to acquire our first set of patients to care for. We could not have been more excited to show off our skills and be the healthcare professionals that we knew we could be. Admittedly, our first day was tiring and we were exhausted, but it was worth it because we were able to make our patients smile while also providing them with quality care.

Extracurriculars

Key Club, HOSA, SkillsUSA,

SOL, and Student Ambassadors have become like a second family to me. An infamous chant shouted at a training conference and our service known throughout the Las Vegas Key Club valley, "Serving the community is what we do in Key Club!" has so much meaning because it also goes beyond what we do in the club. Helping those in need and brightening the community through the simplest things like picking up after ourselves or going green and decreasing our carbon footprint. It all ties in with how we benefit the space we live in and look out for others.

Just like in HOSA and SkillsUSA,

these Career and Technical Student Organizations help prepare students to go into their chosen career path by allowing them to compete with fellow peers and put their knowledge to the test.

Throughout the past three years,

serving as a Southeast Tech Student Ambassador has meant so much to me and has allowed me step up in my last year to fulfill an officer position. In the Ambassador program, I have had many opportunities that connected me with families welcomed them on to campus. Just this year, I was able to welcome, meet, and tour CCSD Supt. Jara and NV State Supt. Ebert around campus and show them all the amazing qualities that Southeast Tech has to offer.

Campaigns

Camp Anytown Fall 2019 truly was

a once in a lifetime experience. I applied to attend this camp unknowing what goes on at Lee Canyon and why high school students come down the mountain feeling refreshed with a new perspective on life. However, I went up the mountain and became exposed to all forms of information that has helped develop my point of view on life. I felt refreshed and renewed. This three day retreat was almost like a temporary therapy session that aligned me with myself and let go of the past. Camp Anytown is such a wonderful program that will bless the future generations of change.
